Being on the Board of Directors of QuestionCopyright.org involves
Attending the annual meeting (as described in the bylaws).
Being available for advice and discussion about activities undertaken or being contemplated by the organization. We do not anticipate a lot of email requiring responses; traffic should normally be low and mainly informational.
Giving advice about running a nonprofit organization and about effective public advocacy.
Giving advice about fundraising, including general strategy and suggestions about specific granting organizations.
Board membership need not be a huge time committment — although we certainly welcome as much time as each director wants to give — and is not a financial committment at all. We already have a fair number of volunteers who take part in discussions and who are willing to help out on projects. Our current plan is to seek grants dedicated to those projects (see the description of activities). The grants should eventually allow us to have one or two paid staff, and perhaps short-term interns as needed. For now, we're planning to do budgeting and fundraising in terms of specific projects and goals, though that's certainly open to reconsideration later.
